Prof. Feng-Chuan Chuang received his B.S. in Physicsfrom Taiwan Normal University in 1997 and Ph.D. from the Iowa StateUniversity in USA in 2005. Now, he is the distinguished professor of Departmentof Physics, Taiwan Sun Yat-sen University. He has won the Taiwan SunYat-sen University Young Scholars Award in Oct 2010 and the Taiwan SunYat-sen University Outstanding Research Award in Aug 2016. He mainly focus on the field of condensed matter physics, computational material physics, first-principlecalculation, semiconductor surfaces, 2D Topological Crystalline Insulators, 2Dmaterials and 2D Quantum anomalous Hall insulator.
Band topology of strained buckledhoneycomb consisting of different elements (IV, V and Ⅲ-V) as well as thoseplaced on a variety of semiconducting and insulating substrates aresystematically investigated using first-principles calculations [1-6].Topological phase can be manipulated not only through strain but also throughbonding with the supporting substrate and functionalization. The honeycomb canexhibit quantum spin Hall effect phase, topological crystalline phase, andquantum anomalous Hall effect phase. In addition, some metal inducedreconstructed substrates can be 2D topological insulator. This opens up newopportunities for the scientists in the field of surface science.
