  为搭建我校博士后之间的学术交流平台,促进学术水平提升,学校博士后管理办公室组织开展博士后学术沙龙活动。本次沙龙由我校博士后Caroline Nirina Foucher和Lucas Vazquez Besteiro分享其研究成果,诚挚邀请感兴趣的师生参加。

  报告一:     

  (1)主 题:Advances in plastic lasers and colour-converters

  (2)主讲人: Caroline Nirina Foucher  基础与前沿研究院博士后 

  (3)交流内容:

  Interest in organic semiconductors (OS) as gain materials for visible solid-state lasers has been growing over recent years, mainly because these photonic materials offer broad spectral coverage and have attractive processing capabilities. However, to represent a viable application-enabling technology, OS lasers need to be made compact and environmentally stable. The demonstration of low threshold OS lasers, suitable for optical-pumping with InGaN laser diodes or light-emitting diodes, is now paving the way for such compact implementation of OS laser systems. OS lasers still suffer from photo-degradation, an effect that ultimately limits their operation lifetime. Encapsulation of the OS material can be used to mitigate this issue. The challenge is to achieve a high-performing encapsulation format while simultaneously retaining mechanically-flexibility and low threshold characteristics.

  In this talk, she will present their demonstration of mechanically-flexible OS laser that are fully encapsulated using ultra-thin glass. The resulting OS lasers are optically pumped with a pulsed 450nm laser diode. The threshold and photo-stability characteristics of these lasers are shown to be significantly better than those of equivalent non-encapsulated lasers, respectively 22-fold and 250-fold improvement.

  The same encapsulation technique is currently being investigated for colour-convertors for visible light communication applications, which I will also discuss in this presentation.

  (4)主讲人简介:

  Dr. Caroline Nirina Foucher received her Ph.D. degree from the University of Strathclyde in 2015. She currently works as a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Institute of Fundamental and Frontier Sciences of UESTC. Dr. Wang is working in the field of ultrafast photonics. Since 2013, she has published 7 academic papers in the International Journal of Optics Express, Applied Physics Let, Faradary discussions as a first/second author.

  (1)主 题:Hot carrier generation in plasmonic nanoparticles

  (2)主讲人:Lucas Vazquez Besteiro 基础与前沿研究院博士后

  (3)交流内容:

  Materials with large numbers of free carriers, such as noble metals, support collective charge carrier oscillations when excited with electromagnetic radiation. The quanta of these excitations in the electron density are known as plasmons, and their study has offered a variety of applications within the broader discipline of Nanophotonics. Many of these applications are related to sensing, imaging and information processing, while others aim to use plasmonics as a means for enhancing light energy conversion processes. One such approach employs metal nanoparticles as antennas that strongly couple with electromagnetic radiation, to then use the absorbed energy to inject excited carriers into a neighboring system of interest, be it to produce photocurrents or to induce photocatalysis. These processes can occur because the plasmon dephases into a non-thermal charge carrier distribution, where a number of carriers are excited into high energy states (hot electrons or holes), allowing them to traverse the potential barrier that separates the metal from the target material. In this talk he will provide an overview of this phenomenon, with specific discussion around its theoretical description.

  (4)主讲人简介:

  Dr. Lucas Vazquez Besteiro is a post-doc majored in the interaction of nanoscale photons. He obtained his Ph.D. degree in Materials Science at the Universidad de Santiago de Compostela in 2014. From August 2014 to July 2017, Dr. Lucas Vazquez Dr. Besteiro was a postdoctoral fellow at Ohio University and joined Professor Zhiming Wang’s group in September 2017. Till now, Dr. Lucas Vazquez Besteiro has published 15 academic papers in the journal International Journal of Nature Physics, Nano Letters, Nature Communications etc., under the name of first author, the second author and the author of the communication.
