　　本次活动教师发展中心特别邀请美国肯特州立大学副教授杜衍海博士，与我校师生分享其在高温燃料电池技术方面相关的材料设计、电堆组装和系统集成方面的研究及进展。具体安排如下，欢迎感兴趣的教师和博士生参加。

　　Meeting the ever increasing energy demands, with a significant reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, has become one of the world’s top concerns.  The Paris Agreement on climate change called for 197 parties/countries to make commitments to significant GHG reductions in order to keep the global warming below 2°C.  China and U.S. played a critical role in reaching this international treaty. With less than 5% of world population, the U.S. consumes approximately 18% of the world’s total energy, and more than 80% of U.S energy is from fossil fuels. Smog and other pollutions in China and other developing countries are hurting residents’ health and economic growth.

　　Developing and implementing clean energy solutions, such as fuel cells, has become imperative. Fuel cells will play a crucial role in the transition from fossil fuel era to renewable energy era. A fuel cell is an electricity generator. The key difference from conventional generators is that a fuel cell does not burn the fuel. It generates electricity through an electrochemical process with over two times’ better efficiency than a thermal power plant. Therefore, developing and adopting fuel cells into the mainstream power generation process can significantly cut greenhouse emissions while maintaining a reliable electric power supply. This seminar will discuss the status of fuel cell technology, its applications and opportunities for research and development。　

　　七、主讲人简介

　　杜衍海博士，美国Kent州立大学副教授，燃料电池中心主任。长期从事固体氧化物燃料电池技术的相关研究工作，从材料设计开发到电池堆的组装测试，首次开发测试了以丙烷及JP-8等燃料的SOFC便携式系统。杜衍海教授发表学术论文近百篇，单篇引用达到289次，主持包括美国军方、自然基金和能源部的多项重大项目。
